"The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others."
— Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
The foundation is managed by a dedicated team of officers committed to transparent and principled governance.
The five pillars are the core acts of worship that form the foundation of a Muslim's faith and practice — obligations binding upon every Muslim.
The Rizvan Foundation is grounded in the Ja'fari school of Islamic jurisprudence — the legal tradition of the Twelver Shia, named after Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (AS).
Shia Islam is built upon five essential beliefs that form the doctrinal core of the faith, distinct from the principles of practice.
The guardianship of the Islamic jurist (Wali al-Faqih) — the doctrinal basis for Islamic governance in the absence of the Twelfth Imam (AJ). A core principle of contemporary Shia political theology.
Shia Muslims believe in twelve divinely appointed Imams from the Ahlul Bayt, beginning with Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS), as the rightful successors of the Prophet (SAW). Their guidance is essential to jurisprudence.
Beyond the five pillars, Shia fiqh includes Khums (20% religious tax on surplus income), Jihad, Amr bil Ma'ruf (commanding good), Nahy anil Munkar (forbidding evil), and Tawalli & Tabarri (love of Ahlul Bayt, disavowal of their enemies).
Ja'fari jurisprudence derives rulings from four sources: the Quran, the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW), the teachings of the Imams (AS), and Aql (reason) — with the intellect playing a pivotal role unique to Shia legal methodology.
Every Shia Muslim follows a living Marja' (Grand Ayatollah) as their religious authority in matters of jurisprudence. Prominent contemporary Marjas include Grand Ayatollah Sistani and Grand Ayatollah Khamenei.
One of the most distinctive Shia obligations: one-fifth (20%) of annual surplus income is given — half as Sahm al-Imam (share of the Imam, supporting Islamic institutions) and half as Sahm al-Sadaat (share of the descendants of the Prophet).
Selected narrations from the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the Ahlul Bayt (AS) that guide the mission and values of the Rizvan Foundation.
