Pillars of Islam (أركان الإسلام)

The five pillars are the core acts of worship that form the foundation of a Muslim's faith and practice — obligations binding upon every Muslim.

I
Shahada
The Declaration of Faith — "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger." It is the entry point into Islam and the foundation of all belief.
II
Salat
The five daily prayers (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha), the direct connection between the worshipper and Allah, performed facing the Qibla.
III
Zakat
Obligatory almsgiving — purifying one's wealth by giving 2.5% annually to those in need, one of Islam's most powerful tools against poverty.
IV
Sawm
Fasting during the holy month of Ramadan from dawn to sunset — a spiritual discipline of self-restraint, gratitude, and closeness to Allah.
V
الحج
Hajj
The pilgrimage to Mecca, obligatory once in a lifetime for those physically and financially able — a profound act of unity, submission, and remembrance.

Shia Islamic Jurisprudence (فقه جعفري)

The Rizvan Foundation is grounded in the Ja'fari school of Islamic jurisprudence — the legal tradition of the Twelver Shia, named after Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (AS).

Usul al-Din — Foundations of Faith (أصول الدين)

Shia Islam is built upon five essential beliefs that form the doctrinal core of the faith, distinct from the principles of practice.

Tawhid — Oneness of God Adl — Divine Justice Nubuwwah — Prophethood Imamah — Divine Leadership Qiyamah — Day of Resurrection

📖 Wilayat al-Faqih

The guardianship of the Islamic jurist (Wali al-Faqih) — the doctrinal basis for Islamic governance in the absence of the Twelfth Imam (AJ). A core principle of contemporary Shia political theology.

🕌 The Twelve Imams

Shia Muslims believe in twelve divinely appointed Imams from the Ahlul Bayt, beginning with Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS), as the rightful successors of the Prophet (SAW). Their guidance is essential to jurisprudence.

📿 Furu al-Din — Branches of Practice

Beyond the five pillars, Shia fiqh includes Khums (20% religious tax on surplus income), Jihad, Amr bil Ma'ruf (commanding good), Nahy anil Munkar (forbidding evil), and Tawalli & Tabarri (love of Ahlul Bayt, disavowal of their enemies).

⚖️ Sources of Ja'fari Fiqh

Ja'fari jurisprudence derives rulings from four sources: the Quran, the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW), the teachings of the Imams (AS), and Aql (reason) — with the intellect playing a pivotal role unique to Shia legal methodology.

🌙 Marja'iyyah — Religious Authority

Every Shia Muslim follows a living Marja' (Grand Ayatollah) as their religious authority in matters of jurisprudence. Prominent contemporary Marjas include Grand Ayatollah Sistani and Grand Ayatollah Khamenei.

Khums — Religious Levy

One of the most distinctive Shia obligations: one-fifth (20%) of annual surplus income is given — half as Sahm al-Imam (share of the Imam, supporting Islamic institutions) and half as Sahm al-Sadaat (share of the descendants of the Prophet).

Hadiths & Narrations

Selected narrations from the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the Ahlul Bayt (AS) that guide the mission and values of the Rizvan Foundation.

"I am leaving among you two weighty things: the Book of Allah and my progeny, the Ahlul Bayt. They will never separate from each other until they meet me at the Pond."
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) — Hadith al-Thaqalayn · Al-Kafi, Sheikh al-Kulayni
"I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate. Whoever wishes to enter the city must come through the gate."
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) — Mustadrak al-Hakim · Bihar al-Anwar, Allamah Majlisi
"Reason is that by which the Most Merciful is worshipped and through which Paradise is earned."
Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) — Al-Kafi, Vol. 1 · Sheikh al-Kulayni
"Be an enemy to the oppressor and a helper to the oppressed."
Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) — Nahj al-Balagha, Letter 47
"Whoever wakes up in the morning without concern for the affairs of the Muslims is not a Muslim."
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) — Al-Kafi, Vol. 2 · Sheikh al-Kulayni
"Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim. Indeed, Allah loves those who earnestly seek knowledge."
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) — Al-Kafi, Vol. 1 · Sheikh al-Kulayni
"Maintain ties with your relatives, even if only by offering a greeting of peace."
Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (AS) — Al-Kafi, Vol. 2 · Sheikh al-Kulayni
"He is not of us who does not respect our elders, show mercy to our young ones, and recognize the rights of our scholars."
Imam Ali al-Ridha (AS) — Uyun Akhbar al-Ridha · Sheikh al-Saduq
